post-MMMC

I just got home from Making Money Make Change and feel the usual combination of energized/agitated/inspired/frustrated and emotionally demolished. I want to write so much and I have a lot of processing to do, but for now all I can do is sleep.

I do want to say that the workshop Tiny and I did (I think we called it something like Community Reparations and Interdependence) was really inspiring for me and the conversation interestingly turned to the theme of “moving back home” that keeps popping up everywhere recently. There is much to say on this topic and I’d like to share both this guest essay on Jessie’s blog that I’ve been meaning to post for awhile, by Martha Jane about moving in with parents, and this recent piece by Jessie with some continuing reflections on this theme.

The idea of writing coherent reflections about MMMC is something I find highly intimidating due to my long-time entanglement (there’s so much to say but where do I start?), but I’m going to try. I think. After I sleep more.

p.s. For now let me reiterate these reflections from last year.

  1. yes. to the amazing complexity i feel leaving too: hopeful, inspired and hella pissed off. dishearted. realizing more and more that maybe the “radical” thing to do is to stay apart of that community and work to move it towards a different place, taking myself to new places too….while still acknowledging the beauty that it is as it exists now.

  2. hey ya’ll. curious what is behind the words? Tyrone, I don’t think you ever posted your reflections from MMMC 09. I ran into one of the presenters/healers Cara from Atlanta at a YWEP benefit last week (we recognized each other from SONG celebration) and she said she was still trying to wrap her head around her thoughts and feelings from the weekend.

I’m interested because I missed going to MMMC – have, these past few years – but also feel like its kind of weird to have to pay a large chunk of change just to continue building with incredible folks. I’m wondering if there are other spaces where we can all connect and challenge each other in a cross and multi-racial space. I guess.. Tyrone that’s what the POOR Bay convening was for which I couldn’t make it for either.
And there are others.. like Allied Media and
Social forum, but the intimate, intentional and focused space is so valuable.

Anyway.. just a lil dialogue and probing. thanks.
